Gold Coast - Oct 2010

I missed some updates on certain family events this year. We went on a trip to Gold Coast last October. Damia on the plane again! Mummy only went on my first flight when i was like after school. Huhu

Since Mia is still small, we couldn't afford to go on a tour. So we did a little tour ourselves guided by dearest hubby!

Day 1 - Arrived at Gold Coast at 8am, Coollangata airport

Gosh, we were so tired we slept for few hours until past lunch time. Not to mention hungry.Hehe.Couldn't get any sleep at all on the plane although Mia slept all through the journey. An australian hunky thanked Mia for behaving so well on the plane. Hehe

Ok,we stayed at the Gold Coast Surfer's Paradise apartment. While Mia's asleep, we cooked ourselves lunch. Just maggi mee, lucky us this was not confiscated at the immigration. But they took our nescafe packets. Sobss. Then we took a stroll nearby the apartment. Nice view

comfy hall and kitchen

Damia on the bed, happy!

In front of the apartment

Not too far from the apartment

Some groceries we bought on the way home. Costs us 30 aud!!

-to be continued

Beijing vacation

Don't be fooled by the title. It isn't me that is going to Beijing but my family did. (",)

They are coming home tonight ! Yeay, can't wait to hear their stories. Heard that it's freezing there. Some days are below 6 Celsius. Huh can't imagine walking through the cold weather.

Hubby,me, damia & kak ru is in Selayang now. Need to feed the cat, warm up the engines or in short, taking care of the house in their absence. Hehe

Tomorrow we will go home ( Shah Alam), techs from TM is going to set up Unifi. Yeayy again! Hubby can't take the unbearable maxis data charges anymore.

Damia @ 7 months old

Honestly, this blog has turned into a personal diary for my little gal. As of today, Damia is almost 8 months actually.

I have just returned from office, just had my dinner. When hubby & me arrived home, Mia has fallen asleep. These few days, or i should say for a week now, her sleep pattern is little off. Sometimes she goes to bed at 7pm or 8.Other days could after 10pm. Kak ru (who takes care of mia during the day) said that she played a lot. Eventhough she seemed sleepy ( cue: rubbing her eyes), she forced herself to play. She would scream holding onto Nyang's cane, as if she is trying to support herself to stand on her own. Funny though. She would be angry too if we took the cane away from her. Once i saw her clutching onto the cane while looking at me and smiled as if she is trying to say "look at me, i am so awesome, i can do this!". Hehe

Hubby likes this one the most, "like ju-on", he says

*Nyang is my grandmother :)

For my Damia

Petua Agar Anak Ikut Cakap Ibubapa

by Pak Ngah – Farit Ismeth Emir on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 2:49am

Clever baby on the move

Mummy & daddy had some challenging times with you this weekend. It appears that you are healthy and you are eating well but you had some pretty bad tantrums. We had to carry you around the house to keep you happy. You start screaming when we tried to put you down. We even thought of getting you a walker but we hold on that thought first. It might not be safe. We decided to bring you on a car ride. That worked great! Dear, you fell asleep after 10 mins or less sometimes. Funny, you really like being asleep in the car (just like mummy? :p ). Maybe it’s so cool and comfy. There you go, twice a day. Once during the day and once at night. On one occasion, you were just inconsolable that we had to leave you cry yourself to sleep. Breaks my heart to see that. Please don’t do that to mummy ever again. Next time, if you don’t like something, we should talk and discuss about it.Hehe. Can wait for you start talking :p

Other than that, you are just getting cuter and cleverer by the day!

6 months old baby developments

Mia is 6 months old today!

Each baby develops at his own pace. Let’s check where Mia is at now:-

Body Movement

Lifts chest and most of tummy off floor by pushing up on extended arms.>>Checked! (Although rarely)

Rolls from back to tummy easily. >> Hm it looked easy sometimes, other days she kinda struggled to roll, it’s ok coz you just got this few days ago, i'm sure you'll be good at it soon)

Rocks and kicks a lot. Rolls around in delight. >> Definitely kicks a lot, Rolls rarely..not yet i guess)

Sits erect briefly, using hands on floor for balance and support.>>Checked! But still need hubby and me for support

Bounces when held erect. Likes seeing the world when standing. >>Oh so true especially while travelling in the car

Eye-Hand Coordination

Uses one-handed purposeful grasp to shake, bang, put object in mouth, then finally drop it. Enjoys dropping objects repeatedly to learn the noises they make. >>Checked!

Uses whole hand to rake in and pick up small object. >>Checked!

Regularly reaches for objects out of her reach.>>Checked! ( Mummy & Daddy had to hold you tight so that you don't fall, very ambitious little lady)

Grabs and sucks on her own and your body parts to differentiate herself from you as two separate individuals. >>Ic is that it? Mia darling you sucked my finger to differentiate yourself from me?..hmm interesting.....

House update & Damia starting on solid food!

Yeszaa..our house is almost ready to be occupied. Today we had help from Sarah, an Indonesian lady with her friend to clean up the house. Oh we should take the “before” and “after” pictures but we didn’t bring our camera. Phone batteries were out, so nothing can be captured. The hall was full of stuffs we brought from Selayang and also groceries that we bought the night before. I think most of them are groceries and kitchen things. Tell you what, my hubby is very fond of the kitchen, it’s his favorite above all place in the house. As if he cooks! Haha. Well then, he told me there is no excuse not to cook now. Not that I dislike cooking, but mama cooks very well and I don’t want to ruin it. Aha, ok that’s what you call excuse.

Thrilled, once they are finished with the kitchen, we just can’t wait to put all the groceries and other things in place already. We are going to move in next week, InsyaAllah. I’m going with mixed feelings, excited to move to our own house (yeayy!) and can’t help feeling a little emotional leaving Ayah and Mama after living with them for…all my life J.

On another unrelated note, Damia is already on solid food now at 5 months old. I know I should wait until she’s 6 months but she has already shown signs that she’s ready for it. She stared at us eating and looked eagerly as if she wants a bite. She started on Farley-rusks mixed with breastmilk, then hubby bought few bottles of baby foods from Heinz. I am thinking of preparing the baby food myself, so I’m hunting for baby food recipes now. Please share with me if you have any good sites to refer to.

Something i found from the net-

Source : http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/readyforsolids.htm

Here are a few "signs" that may indicate your baby is ready for Solid Foods:

1- Loss of tongue-thrust reflex - This allows baby to drink and swallow liquids with ease; with the tongue-thrust reflex still present, baby may simply drink in liquid purees or push the food back out. According to Dr. Jim Sears, in the first four months the tongue thrust reflex protects the infant against choking. When any unusual substance is placed on the tongue, it automatically protrudes outward rather than back. Between four and six months this reflex gradually diminishes, giving the glob of cereal a fighting chance of making it from the tongue to the tummy

2- Ability to let you know she is full from a "meal" with signs such as turning away from the bottle or breast. This is important so that baby is able to self-regulate the amount of food being eaten. This helps stop baby from accidentally overeating as parents may continue to feed baby thinking that she is still hungry.

3- Ability to sit up and hold head up unassisted

4- Interest in your food (we tend to disagree with this one as when a baby reaches the age of 4-6 months, he is interested in putting everything in his mouth.)

5- Doubling of birth weight

6- Frequently waking in the middle of the night when a solid sleeping pattern had been established. This may not be the best indicator that your baby is ready for solids. Please keep in mind that a growth spurt will occur between 3-4 months of age, 6-7 months of age and also 9-10 months of age. Baby may also be waking due to an illness or teething.

Raya Raya

I hope it is not too late to wish Selamat Hari Raya to my relatives and friends. Bet you can guys had a great weekend.

We celebrated Hari Raya at my hubby's side at Jitra/Jerlun, Kedah this year. It is baby mia's first hari raya celebration and we were really excited. Mak bought few clothes for mia so we didn't have to buy any raya clothes for her. Can't wait for next year when she can walk, i want to buy baju kurung that matches with me and hubby.

So i started packing on tuesday, 3 days before raya.Since we have a new member to the family we didn't want to leave anything behind especially baby stuffs. On wednesday night we started our journey at almost 12am. Mia slept all the way and woke up just in time for sahur. We reached Juru at about 4.30am and had our sahur at Subaidah- favourite mamak restaurant to stop by everytime we go back to Kedah. Amazingly we managed to catch up with mak and makcik Salina's family who went in separate cars and started off earlier than us.Can't remember what time we reached Jitra- maybe around 6-7 am. Hubby dozed off immediately.Hehe

We checked-in to Holiday Villa Hotel, Alor Setar in the afternoon as mia got cranky. Apparently she could not stand the heat. No surprise here i guess coz she's used to sleep in an air-conditioned room. Huhu. So she slept for several hours. We had to break fast with Mc D-GCB ( oOohh delicious) as we didn't want to go out and wake her. At night we went back to Jitra, continue with dinner and had little nice chat with the family on the eve of raya :)

Yeay, its finally raya the next day. Mia got her first collection of raya money from Wan, Ayu and makcik Salina. Mak Ngah came to the house too and mia collected rm50! yuhoo. Then we headed to Jerlun (arwah bapak's side) to visit Paksu's family. They were so excited to see mia who's already 5 months old. I think the last time i came i was 2-3 months pregnant.

On second hari raya, we just hung around at Wan's house and went to visit Mak Ngah's family at Kepala Batas in the afternoon. Didn't go to many places as mia needs her beauty sleep. Most of the time spent in the hotel though.

3rd day of hari raya we went back to Jerlun again, this time to visit Abg Ad's family which is hubby's cousin. Abg Ad just came back from JB. This time Teh is around too, with Mak teh heavily pregnant it seemed. She looked radiant and just glowing! Then Tam came shortly after. We went back at 2pm and off to KL.

Ops the journey doesn't end there. The road were so jammed packed with cars that we decided to drop by at Ipoh- Mak Anjang's house. The original plan was to head back straight to KL but hubby was too tired after driving for 7 hours. By the time we reached Ipoh, it was already 8.45pm, just imagine!

We finally reached KL at almost 1 am. Ayah was surprised to see us in the morning because we told him the night before that we were going to spend the night at Ipoh. Haha. Hubby decided to go back anyway after few hours of rest.

Looking forward to our next plan- we are going to move in to our own house in 2 weeks time! Watch our for the next entry. (^_^)

Damia @ 5 months old

What can mia do now?

-Makes a new sound when she's not happy.Kinda like shrieking and babbling at the same time.Wish i could record and upload it here. Does this when she lies down.Huhu-mummy cant hold you all the time dear, you are almost 7 kg now!

-Grips at things better nowadays, like toys and her pillow..and they go straight to her mouth

-Don't wear mittens anymore, so i've to remember to keep her nails trimmed or she'll scratch herself

-Always trying to roll over it seems but still failed. Baby dear, u might as well just skip to walking.

-She has strong legs now, likes to stand on her feet (while i hold her of course)

-Gets fussy when its time to sleep. Doesn't like the spring cot anymore, but needs mummy or daddy to swing her in my arms.Manja! (^_^)

Can't believe it's almost 6 months to exclusive breastfeeding. Then she'll start solid food at 6 months! Hope to be able to breastfeed her until she is 2 years old. I remember i had difficulties breastfeeding due to lack of info and knowledge. It's not something that comes naturally, its a learning process. Poor Mia i had to supply her with formula milk for the first 2 months because i thought i didn't have enough milk. Finally i learned that feeding as often as i could and pumping helps. The more demand, the more supply you have. I took some supplements to help such as alfalfa, soy protein and some vitamins from Shaklee. I'm glad that she's healthy and never had any fever so far. Thanks to dearest hubby for supporting all along, even surprised me with the best breastpump as a gift. You certainly rock my world! Hehe.

Damia @ almost 4 months old

Our lil bundle of joy has come to almost 4 months now.So far, these are what she has been up to;-

-She likes to play with daddy, she finds that anything daddy does is funny. Once, she actually laughed hard when daddy made faces. So cute..

-Smile or squeals when we sing ABC to her, or any type of songs especially with daddy.

-Started to wake up in the wee hours of morning to play..and doesn't like to lie down, prefers to be held..or she'll throw a tantrum.Pandai yeerr

-Doesn't quite like tummy time, she can last for briefly 2 mins or so and then started to scream.Haha

-Meniarap, tries very hard but can only go through half way.Nevermind dear, keep trying, mummy and daddy will support you!

-Starting to watch tv.We let her watch cartoons,we'll put her in her cute bumbo seat and that seems to keep her occupied for at least half an hour

-When she nurses in the morning, she has a way of looking at me that melts my heart! Like a loving kinda way and sweet , as if she knows i'm her mother ( she does right?? ).Love every moment!

-Loves to sleep in her spring cot during the day but didnt mind sleeping on the bed at night. Macam-macam la kerenah.

-Easily distracted during breastfeeding session, anything that picks up her interest, be it the slightest noise, she turned away to look at it and then continues to breastfeed.Kinda funny when she does that.

-She begins to learn to take a grip on things, especially our fingers. Also an expert on taking off her right hand's mitten nowadays.Clever gal!

-Overall, she is a happy little darling but has quite a temper if one doesn't attend to her needs quickly. Remember everything has to be quick or she'll get mad.haha.Happy 4 months old my dear Damia!

Baby Mia & Our Trip to Langkawi

Oh my, isn't rusty in here. How time flies, our lil' damia is almost 3 months now. It felt like just weeks ago when i first laid eyes on her. I didn't manage to find time to write on that, however i do cherish every moment of the labour process. I'll come to that later as still need to get some facts right since there are times i was on meds, i was less attentive of the time and stuff.

Just had her 2 months old vaccination last 2 weeks before our langkawi trip. The doctor advised that we gave her the fever meds as infants are very likely to catch fever after that. Alhamdulillah, we gave her once only as she didn't show any signs of fever all day. She is strong girl, cried just a little after that jab. I immediately breastfed her and she was calm again. I guess, breastfeeding is good thing too as it said to boost your baby's immune system. I have read somewhere that taking 2 pills of vitamin C (500 mg each) before her injection also can prevent a baby from getting fever, not sure if there is any truth in that, maybe it helped too.She weighs about 52kg, didn't take her her height though, she must be more 60cm tall now, she does look tall, hopefully taller than mummy later.Hehe

I noticed that baby mia smiles a lot these days, she response to people by squealing or babbling. She makes a lot of funny noises, i guess she just dicovered that she can 'talk' and is testing her vocal cords now.She especially likes it when daddy sings ABC song to her! She sleeps well at night and only wakes up to feed. No more colic at this stage. However i still have to watch what i eat everyday, if i take too much chocolates or drinks milo, mia tends to having less sleep at night.

I did mention that we just came back from Langkawi right? This is the first time my hubby, myself and lil damia along with my family took a long roadtrip to the north. Lil mia was a little restless on the way there maybe due to the fact that we had to start the journey at almost 1 am. We were kinda messing with her sleeping time so she's a little cranky. For me, she has been an angel, not too difficult to handle except when she was hungry or trying to sleep. She slept all the time though on our way back home, probably too tired already. I'm thankful that my mom came along too, especially when me and hubby had to go for a quick run to get ourselves some kitchen stuffs as you probably already aware, are very cheap here in Langkawi. Not forgetting the chocolates too! I think we bought a year worth of chocolates! *wink*.

Ok pictures later as i'm updating this blog from office :p
